I got the Liquid Keratin 30 Day Starter Set!

February 28th, 2009 by Apjonabudget

It came, it came! A few days ago I was telling you guys how I took the plunge and ordered the Liquid Keratin Straight, Smooth & Long Treatment 30 Day Starter Set using my $10 off $60 at Beauty.com coupon. It expires 3/31/09, but I’m seriously thinking of challenging myself to the buy nothing for march movement so I had to go ahead and purchase. I get all excited buying things online with the good prices, but I hate waiting and want that instant gratification. Since with the Beauty.com coupon it was $10 cheaper than in the stores and the kit qualified for free shipping it was a no brainer as to where I was ordering from. The picture I showed in the previous post is basically what the box looks like. It has a sticker on the back of the box warning to do a strand test if you have color treated hair. I saw on the Naturallycurly.com boards that bottle blonds found it kinda gave a crazy tint to their color so I wonder if that sticker is new or they just ignored it. The instructions say to just wash your hair with the shampoo and section and saturate the hair with the ‘treatment’. I found a video online of a naturally straight hair model demonstrating the steps and believe me that section your hair part was a lot harder on 4a/b hair that isnt drenched in conditioner like its used to. The treatment is in a spray bottle which I find kind of weird but I sprayed away to saturate all my sections. They say it has a heat protectant in it so I guess i’ll follow the directions and not add another heat protectant. I definately have at least two treatments worth left so that’s a plus. You are supposed to leave it on for 30 minutes before you blowdry and straighten your hair, and its kind of funny how they keep reminding you that you have to wait 48 hours before you can wash your hair again. Umm I wouldnt wash my hair, especially not with shampoo, that fast anyway. Definately not when I went through the trouble to straighten. I guess i’ll have to wait and see the difference on how my hair looks wet, sorry for the tease but ill report back if my curls seem looser and add pics.

Here’s what I know so far:
My hair definately feels stronger
My hair was smooth and was much easier to blowdry – saving time is always a plus
My hair was shiny – bling is hard to come by for me
I had a tad bit of swing, no swang but I noticed a difference; I bet their rule of no other products helped with that
I didnt get all that softness other people had – I think my hair requires extra conditioning after protein for that

Long Term Relationship

Long Term Relationship Leave-In Conditioner

Growing out this hair is not as easy as I thought it would be, and one of the problems being that I break my progress off sometimes by just thinking about it. My hair seems to hate too much protein, but without it my sink starts to look like the floor under a real Christmas tree. Whats a girl to do. Ive found success adding in the Joico K-pak so I will definately stick with that, but I dont want to go overboard. Luckily I found a great light protein product that keeps my hair soft and strong all at the same time. The best part ever is that it is cheap! The Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship line is a winner and smells pretty good too. I’ve got the leave-in conditioner which is a pink, creamy leave-in that leaves my hair feeling soft and moisturized. This will not be getting lost in the back of the shelf, matter of fact, this will be welcome clutter on my dresser, lol. The regular conditioner is nice as well and is great for conditioner washes. This is one of those conditioners with the good slip which makes detangling a breeze. Might I add, this stuff seems to combat frizz some; an added bonus that i’m pleased to report. I’ve got so many conditioners its not funny but for now, Long Term Relationship has a spot in my shower caddy.

New Product – Liquid Keratin 30 Day Starter Kit

February 22nd, 2009 by Apjonabudget

Well guys, i’ve been trying to be good and not purchase anymore products. I even tried to join the buy nothing challenge, but I failed miserably and knowing I had a tax refund check on the way really didnt help matters. You try to ignore it, but everywhere I turned, okay since I kept turning to hair boards maybe it shouldnt be a total shocker, I kept hearing about the Liquid Keratin 30 Day Straight-Smooth-Strong & Long Treatment Starter Kit. Whew now that was a mouthful, lol. I dream of a non-permanent straightening system, but everytime I hear about a new one there’s a huge but in there somewhere. Like with the Brazilian Keratin Treatment, I heard great reviews about that stuff, but it had hazardous chemicals in it that could basically kill you if done wrong. I mean, I know people have had success and are still walking and talking but I just couldnt risk it, especially for price tags upwards of $250, yikes! So lately the buzz has been on this LKT system, that name was just too long to re-type. It’s $69, and comes with a whole do it yourself kit.  The Kit comes with the ‘treatment’, a leave-in, some shampoo, and a conditioner. They sell the other products by itself, but the ‘treatment’ is only in the kit, at least for now. They only seem to have it at a few places, one being Beauty.com who is always having Free Shipping promotions and I just got a Code for$10 off $60 at Beauty.com! Man talk about a Coupon Alert, but it expires 3/31/09 so I have to make my move. With the $10 discount I’ve finally got enough to put me over the edge and get it. I’ll do a product review of course and let you know my thoughts but i’m really excited. You still have to use heat to get the best effects, but since keratin is protein my hair should be strong enough to take it.

I Love Youtube.com

February 20th, 2009 by Apjonabudget

Is it me, or is youtube.com the best ever! Everytime I get into a style rut, or want to know how something is done I go and i’m never disappointed. These girls have me even stepping up my makeup game. There’s nothing like seeing someone actually do it, if you are on the slow bus like me at times, you can finally get that aha moment. I logged on today and found two new channels that I will definately frequent often, can you say Subscribe! My latest find is PrettyDimples01, she has some great tutorials for natural hair, and deme2372, she has the breakdown for the Quickweave if you dont have to get your needle and thread on as I did in my wig tutorial. Both of them add makeup tutorials in as well, so with them you’ll complete the look. I cant wait to try some of the styles, youtube will have you thinking you can do anything, but I might try one of Prettydimples01′ updo looks. I’ll keep you posted and try to remember to take pics to show how I did. I’m still doing my Hide your Hair thing so I cant do anything that will show my length, but a cute updo to switch it up should be cute. Who are your go to youtubers, put me on!

Coupon Alert – GNC

February 18th, 2009 by Apjonabudget

15% off any Purchase at GNC.com

I got another coupon for you guys, but it expires at the end of the month so have fun! I get my vitamins from GNC and I like them and the price. I used to take Nioxin, but I had to take two to get any effect and they cost alot more especially if you need to take two. I originally took the GNC Ultranourishair and I lliked them, but they dont have the amount of Biotin that the GNC Hair,Skin, and Nails (HSN) do so that meant an extra pill. I caught one of those Buy One Get One 50% off sales they have all the time so i’m good for a couple of months. Most people say with a new supplement it takes at least three months to really judge any change. Both supplements have really good ingredients, but I do notice a little smell from the HSN ones that I had to get used to. Its really faint, and I didnt notice that from the Ultranourishair. While I was at GNC the last time, i’m all about a bargain so I usually go the first week so I can get my 20% off with the Gold Card, I saw they have alot of herbal teas there. Their essential oils are a little pricey without a sale so I bought some horsetail, nettle, and rosemary teas and broke open the bags for my next batch of herbal growth oil. Thinking about it, I guess I could have actually made some tea too, I guess if I get too lazy to keep up with oiling my scalp i’ll switch to that since there are plenty of bags left, and i’ll be willing to bet internal growth aids work better.

Happy Valentines Day to Me!

February 15th, 2009 by Apjonabudget

I didn’t have a Valentine this year, not really a news flash if you know me, but I was reading on LHCF about this girl who was her own Valentine and was buying hair products for herself to show her love. As a Product Junkie (PJ) I really didnt need an excuse, but the what the heck. I have been working on my Wishlist and decided to pick up some stuff yesterday. I found out that Whole Foods had Kinky Curly Curling Custard in their stores now so I tried to get some last week when I went to pick up some actual groceries but they were sold out. Curses, so I got smart and called ahead; apparently everyone knows they sell it now because I got shot down by three stores before I found a hit. Arlington VA here I come, they had it alright, but note to self – Don’t go to Whole Foods on a Saturday afternoon, especially if its a holiday. The place was bananas! For my trouble :) I got the KCCC and the Knot Today leave in, and I threw in some flax seeds so I can make some gel and Lobster Bisque. That soup station is killer if you’re the least bit hungry! That only bummer is that I have cornrows in that are too fresh to justify taking them out to try my new gems, but thats okay the pj in me can calm down now that I just own it, lol.

Hot Oil Treatments

February 10th, 2009 by Apjonabudget

I told you guys I was planning to start using my natural hair growth oil for hot oil treatments, and I ran across a new youtube video by Macheriehair. She has a nice blog by the way and she also does a rollersetting video for those that havent yet achieved those salon results. She does a nice quick tutorial on to do a hot oil treatment for those of you who are new to the idea. Its too soon to tell if i’m getting any growth from the oil but I can definately tell it has the tea tree lavendar blend is there. The addition of ylang ylang was a must to make it ready for times when I wont wash it afterwards. Hope this helps!

On A Natural High – Herb Oil Infusion

February 8th, 2009 by Apjonabudget

Well I told you the other day I went crazy on iHerb.com, and its because i’ve been bit by the natural product bug. I’ve been doing alot of research on natural herbs and their health benefits, of course I paid special attention to the ones that help out with your hair. Well that opened me up to a whole other group of hair products to try, and I ordered some Beauty Without Creulty(BWC) products, some oils, and some herbs. Since i’m a fan of instant gratification, one of the few drawbacks of online shopping, I picked up a few things at Whole Foods and GNC. The main herbs i’ve come across that are great for hair are Rosemary, Horsetail, Stinging Nettle, Ylang Ylang, Basil, and Chammomile to name a few, lol. I bought the Rosemary Mint and Moisture Plus conditioner from the BWC line and i’m excited to see how they will turn out; of course i’ll provide a review. I also got put on to Oil Infusions, where you use a carrier oil and add your herbs to be infused into it. Its much like you would brew some tea, but instead of water you use oil. To do this I got my handy baby Crock-pot ($7 at Walmart) and pot some water on high. While that was starting to heat up I got a Mason Jar ($1.59 at Michaels) and added 8oz. of oil. I couldn’t decide on which one I wanted so I put 2oz of Coconut, 2oz. of Sweet Almond, and then the rest Olive oil. Then I just dumped in Rosemary, Nettle, and Kelp. I added some Tea Tree and Lavender oil in for good measure, probably too many drops as this was the strongest smell at the end. I let it stew for a little over 4 hours and then strained it into a funnel to put in a applicator bottle I got from Sallys. Right now i’m only going to use this oil like a hot oil treatment before I wash because i’m using Mega-tek and I dont want too much going on my scalp, but perhaps later i’ll use it more often. I’ll keep you posted, I got the idea to try it from the MoeGro recipe people have raved on Nappturality.com. CAUTION!! Do not use these herbs if you are pregnant or have high blood pressure!
